Wow!!! Never thought I'd be showing my age by admitting that I used to be pretty active in newsgroups. Imagine taking forums like this one and making posts in more of an email fashion, take away smilies and make it more text based and you have: usenet!

Me too until they were taken over by what is now called spammers. I had a bunch of them on the bbs I used to run.

Yup, renegade, those darn 'flooders'....and one could not edit their posts in usenet, once posted, it was 'out there'. I can hear the grandfather to grandchild stories nowadays: "Back when I was I kid we had modems at 9600 baud and we couldn't change our posts all willie-nillie like you kids can these days.

My first modem was 1200 baud. So what does that make me :-)

It also took like an hour to upload anything.

My first modem was a 14.4k used for a 486 with 32 megs of ram and a 512MB hard drive. Guess what year it was!

None other but 1999. We used it until 2001 to get a Pentium II 200MHz processor with a bare 64MB ram. The HD was 2 gigs. It was cool because I didn't know any better existed.

'Fraid not. Bossman don't even come close - try a 1200 baud external modem...had to dial the number (w/a real dial!), then put the handset on the modem with Velcro™ straps.
