Talking

You may have to be from Louisiana to get this one, but a local radio station pulled a pretty good one. They started broadcasting that they had learned from a reliable source that PETA had managed to push through late the previous nite a bill in the state legislature to outlaw the boiling of crawfish due to it being a "cruelty to animals" violation. They had a local state politician in on the joke call in to the station to play along, voicing his concerns about what a great injustice it was and how it was going to harm the local economy and such.

Listeners were actually calling in to the station freaking out, calling PETA all kinds of names, talking about not giving a damn about the law, they would boil their crawfish and just let someone try to stop them.

We had our own "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast in S. La., too cool.

I missed this thread originally, but the only person I tricked on April 1 was my girlfriend. Since she knows how much I hate my job and she has deep fears that my big mouth will get me canned, it ended up working out really well... here's what went down:

I took a half a day of vacation time on April 1st and got home about 12:15pm. She comes home for lunch everyday about 12:45pm. When she got home for lunch that day I was sitting in the front room in my favorite chair with my head in my hands and looking like I had just learned the world would end in the next few minutes. She came in and asked me what was wrong and I gave her my saddest look and said I was sorry, but nothing further. It only took her about 5 seconds to put it all together and she said "well what the hell did you say this time??" I told her that I had a little disagreement with my boss about a new policy that had been implemented and I vocally expressed how I felt he was completely incompetent to manage and that if he thought his new policy would do anything but further alienate his subbordinates then he even stupider than I thought. Her knowing that I'm not very good about keeping my thoughts to myself believed every word of it and totally flipped out. She started screaming something to the effect of "Dammit! You know we can't afford for you to be out of work right now! If you got fired why the hell are you still sitting here instead of looking for a new job!!" I told her I was too depressed to look for work and I might need some time to pull myself together before I could even put together a new resume, much less start looking for a job. It was at this point that my world did almost end. I thought she was going to kill me, she had that crazy look in her eyes and her knuckles were glowing white from clenching her fists so tight. And that's about when I said "April Fools!!" and offered to take her out to lunch.

But by that point the damage was done and she refused lunch and refused to speak to me for the rest of the day. She finally got over it and found the humor in the situation after I had gone back to work the next day and she was certain I had just tricked her.

Oddly enough, yes, she still is. I think she's into the whole Neandrathal (sp??) mentality that I bring to the relationship.
