I couldn't get AVANT to install on my Win95 machine -- and I couldn't find any minimum requirements for AVANT on its home page. Has anyone had any luck getting it to run on Win95?

Dude. Opera Ripoff Alert.

*waits ten minutes for download dial up over ghey dial up, then comes back to review*

EDIT: Yep, I was right. I've been using Opera for a year now, surprise surprise. I'm finally used to all of the shortcuts religously, like middle click for this or right click + back/forward for that. Avant Browser looks as ugly/ uglier than the Windows XP Lunar Blue theme. I can't see how somebody could take pleasure in using this, in fact. It depends on Internet Exploder, meanning it is propietary to windoze. The only thing I can see in it is the skins, which could be appealling to the blind.

Just get opera, and the "Wonderland" skin, and you'll get a better experience.

Opera's always had that, and it looks a lot better than IE. No argument can be made that the Luna XP theme is crappy.

I guess it's a matter of each to their own!

I've used Avant for ages now, it does a great job of everything, and while it may be an IE clone, isn't Opera a gloryfied version of Netscape?

As for looks, I can deal with them, that is certainly not a big thing on my priority for using any program. Another plus for Avant, and as stated above, no ads whatsoever, who'd want to pay for something to remove ads, when there's programs out there doing just as good, with no ads and no charge?

true, it's a matter of personal preference
avant don't charge because it's not a program in it's own right, it's just an add on for ie
opera on the other hand requires nothing from ie to run, hence it works on everything from windows, linux, mac os, be os, mobile phones...
as opera has it's own engine I think they can rightly request a small charge or use banners, besides I bet alot of opera users without ads used dogy serial things...

Win95 Follow Up

OPERA installed on a "virgin" (un-upgraded) Windows 95-B without a whimper. It works perfectly.

I was also able to get Mozilla's FireFox to run on Win95 (they advertise that it needs a minimum of Win98) -- but I had to upgrade to IE4.0 first!
