Need help to install Canon Scanner

I got a free scanner from a co-worker. Model is Canon CanoScan N1240U. It was new but did not come with the installation dvd/software. I downloaded the files from Canon website however still not able to get it work. When I turn on my laptop, the "FOUND NEW HARDWARE" popped out (it was identified as a printer not a scanner). I browsed to select the Tool Kit files and these 4 application files:
cstbwin4136en
deldrvwin1242ejf
lide20lide30n670un676un1240uvst7031a_xpen
WIAdriverN670UN676UN1240U

but still did not work. Can you help please? Thanks.

I think you may have compressed files there that you first have to click on to expand to a folder. Once they decompress they will be able to be installed.

I don't know what you downloaded but I think the file that starts "lidl20...." is listed on the Canon page seperately as an exe file. Download it and try to open it by double clicking on it in Windows Explorer after it is downloaded.

Here is the link ...

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...1&modelid=6621

Also, there is a manual to download if you scroll down the page further.

You will need:

TWAIN Driver - N1240U Scanner Driver Ver. 7.0.3.1a_xp (Windows Vista32/XP/2000)
lide20lide30n670un676un1240uvst7031a_xpen.exe

Which is the OCR writing driver

Download, double click to install (DO NOT HAVE THE SCANNER ATTACHED)

CanoScan Toolbox Ver. 4.1.3.6 (Windows Vista/XP/2000/Me/98)
cstbwin4136en.exe

I use this one download and install you will also need this.

Once these are installed, shutdown start up, once booted to desktop, plug scanner in. Xp should recognize it and install driver.

I deleted the files downloaded before and re-did the process all over again. Although I did not have the scanner attached when downloading, this time. After I downloaded those two files, went to unzip them. shut down and restarted. same problem. still not able to find the new hardware. what's wrong? thanks
