Windows xp w/ canon scanner

What would make a scanner come on for no reason. Canon says something is
pinging the port, but what? Otherwise, it works works perfectly.

you have something running in the background related to your scanner. at run, type msconfig and click on the startup tab, unclick anything seems to be for scanners. If you have a question about something that is starting up, go here
