USB Drive on Older Computer

Hello. Is there such a thing as a computer with a usb drive too old, say 12 years old, for a newer or bigger usb stick?

Yes, and No.........

Firstly,
Your computer is currently only going to be able to support USB 2.0.
Thus, any USB Sticks, and Devices you get, they must be USB 2.0 compatible.

But you can upgrade your computer by installing a USB 3.0 card.
Only, you will need too check if you can get the Linux Drivers for that card.
And check if your power supply will need to be upgraded as well.

Be aware anything circa 2000-2002 may only support USB 1.1.

USB2 was introduced in 2000. It's not impossible that older stock was sold/purchased after the introduction of USB2 so some systems from the early 2000s could only be USB1 compatible.

USB3 devices are backwards compatible to USB2, they just transfer data at USB2 speeds... but they are NOT backwards compatible to USB 1.1. A USB 3 device will not work with a USB 1 port.
