DVD Drive Problem.
Ok, I have two drives. One is a NEC DVD/CD writer. The other is just a phillips CD writer which I never really use. It's just there. lol.
I downloaded Windows Vista through a torrent, installed fine. It was only when I wanted to play a DVD I came to realise that the NEC dvd drive would no longer recognise any media whatsoever. It would show signs of loading, but nothing happens. I've looked on forums and found out a few things. One, windows uses a different bios or something like that, and two, other people have experienced similar problems to me via vista installation. Before i knew that the problem could be bios related. I got rid of vista which was also more complicated than i thought. I re-installed Windows XP using the phillips drive. (the one that's just there). But now, even on XP, the NEC dvd drive will not respond to any media. I would be grateful for any responses. Anybody who has a solution to this, please come forward. lol Much appreciated. -Jason |

Howdy:
Sorry but we don't assist with illegally obtained software. As per the Terms of Use YOU agrred to when you joined. The posting of links or references to warez or any other type of illegal software is strictly forbidden. By doing so you risk having your user account terminated without warning. We will NOT help anyone we suspect of having obtained their software illegally. Any questions pertaining to Vista will be closed in the future. As far as the problem being with XP, are you getting an error message at all? Did you install a DVD program? Have you removed the Upper and Lower FilterLimits in Registry? Murray |

I didn't think it was illegal. Because i downloaded it on the basis of knowing it was a 32 day trial only. I know most torrent downloads are, but I wasn't aware mine was.

I haven't installed any dvd software since re-installing XP. It's basically still fresh of the reboot.

As for the other problem, Re-install the software. Go to Device Manager and see if there is anything in there with a yellow or red mark beside it. I assume everything worked prior to your experiment with Vista? Murray |

Nero is a program for burning cd not a DVD player.
What player opened when you played a DVD? Murray |

Thank you..
Have you opened WMP to see if your dvd drive is being recognized? Have you checked the other things I asked you to check? Murray |

I've tried with an audio CD and a DVD. When I click open on WMP, the folder is blank on the DVD drive, even though there is a disk in there and yes i've done what you said so far.
Thanka for your help so far. |
