Operating system not found on any devices after running for a while

Hello , I am new here, I hope someone can help me!

One of my PC's (Compaq presario 7460) runs 24 hours a day and the OS is Windows 98SE.

When it runs for 24 tot 48 hours, it suddenly reboots itself and after that, the screen shows a black screen with the following message: 'Operating system not found on any devices. Press any key to try again.' Pressing a key won't help, so I have to restart the computer. While starting up, it says it is updating 'number 8063 of disk 3 and disk 4' but there are no disks present!

After this is done, Windows 98 is loaded and all works well, until the next 24 tot 48 hours and it shows the 'operating system not found etc.' message again.

As far as I know, nothing has been changed in the BIOS lately, the PC clock has not become slow, so I do not suspect the CMOS battery to be the cause of this strange problem.

One of the problems with win98 is it eats system resources. Most likely there is no problem, just need to boot more often. Try rebooting about once a day and see if the problem continues.

Never thought that 'eating system resources' could be a problem. I will monitor it and report back in a few days. Thanks for your answer.
