Getting rid of Win Components

Using Windows XP----when I go to Disk Clean-UP, there is an option to add/remove Windows Components. Howeve, the instruction is unclear to me. It states I can add or remove by clicking on the item. So, when I click on "Messenger" for example, is that going to delete or add it? I want to make sure I am not deleting necessary components, of course.

Thanks,

jcchev

If the box is ticked it will add the component or leave it intact, if the box is not ticked it will remove or leave the component off the system
