Using 'OEM' components help!
Hi.
O-K this is where I'm at. I'm a 'Newbie' attempting to build his very first pc. Having recently taken delivery of a 'shiny new Antec p160w case' I now need a few bits to put in it Yes Iv'e looked at a some very helpful review sites, with reference to components, but already I seem to have met my first obstacle! I decided on a Seagate-Barracuda 160gb sata 2 drive, I then found that most on-line suppliers, only stock the 'oem' versions. I realize that this option helps to keep the cost down, also that most oem components, only include the basic item, no cables or manuals or screw etc. Can anyone advise me, If by going for the oem option I would be giving myself any unnecessary complications. Any advise much appreciated. stayfrosty. |

The cables are cheap and I think OEM drives come with the screws,
but they are not hard to find. You don't need the software,as you can partition and format it from windows. It is no harder to install than a retail drive. |

The cables you need will come with the motherboard, assuming you buy a 'retail boxed' motherboard.
If any special drivers are needed, they cane be downloaded from the Seagate web site. The only real problem with 'OEM' parts, is the shorter warranty they come with. |
