Cannot get Internet Explorer to open.

I've tried several fixes and nothing helped. When I double click the icon nothing happens. What gives? This is not the first time it happened. I re-formatted and it was OK. It seems to have happened after I updated.

Thanx

Jim

I don't seem to have Internet Explorer in the Start Menu - but when I go to Programs and type Internet Explorer, it pops up - but I still can't open it.

Thanx - Jim

I found this maybe it will work for you.

Click on Start and and then type run. Click on run.
Run the following command into run box or CMD (command prompt). regsvr32.exe "c:\program files\internet explorer\ieproxy.dll" You will get a successfully registered message.
Now restart your computer and then try to open Internet Explorer now. It should work fine.

I tried that but got an error message that says, "call to DLL register server failed with error code 0x80070005". What else can I try? I also already tried to install a new version of Internet Explorer, but it told me that I had the latest version already, and that was not true. Thanks, Jim

Did you try doing that while logged on as administrator?

Yes, I did try logging in as administrator, but did not work. What we just did, that finally worked, was uninstall the update that updated my comoputer to IE 11, because my girlfriend told me that this only started happening after the update - so we uninstalled it and then we were finally able to download IE 11 off the website. OMG!

Thanx so very much from me and my girlfriend!
Jim

Have you looked in the Control Panel>Program and Features where it says Turn Windows Features ON or Off?

If it keeps happening even after you fix it, you might consider you may have a virus or malware that's causing the problem. Try running malwarebytes first from within windows and then from safe mode and then try your reinstall of internet explorer. You might also try after the malwarebytes scan going into your C programs files folder find the internet explorer folder then iexplorer exe and right click restore previous version. I haven't had much luck with restoring previous versions though. Do you have a backup image saved on an external or secondary drive, Perhaps a restore point from a while back as well to try? Do you have any other browsers installed like firefox or chrome?

It happened soon after I re-formatted the pc with a copy of Windows, so I inclined to think it's not a virus or malware. Firefox is my default browser. The only reason we use Internet Explorer is because Firefox does not currently support the call app in Gmail. That's the only time we use it.

Thanx, Jim

Have you looked in Control Panel>Programs and Features where it says Turn Windows Features On or Off to see if IE11 is there?
Also you may want to try downloading and installing IE11 from here:
